TMW report that Lucas Torreira is leaving Atletico Madrid to return to Arsenal, hoping to secure a new January move. AS Monaco are pushing to bring him in, offering a three-year deal, making positive contact with player and club.

There are other clubs interested, with Inter Milan, Lazio and Fiorentina all mentioned by the same outlet. But Monaco are reportedly a ‘serious’ contender, making Torreira a strong target.

The parties involved are running out of time to make anything happen here. As recently as last night, Torreira was still playing for Atletico, coming off the bench against Valencia for the final few minutes. He also played a half on Thursday.

Yet he hasn’t made a league start since October 24th, and it seems fairly clear it would be in his best interest to go somewhere else for the second half of the campaign.

The problem is that Torreira isn’t really pushing for it. His agent keeps suggesting he’s happy, despite playing just 90 minutes of league football in over two months.

With the transfer deadline now just a week away, things would need to progress quickly, and that requires Torreira to make his feelings known.
