Contrary to reports in recent days, Christian Falk claims Mesut Özil will not give up his salary to move to Fenerbahce in the January window.

German journalist Christian Falk claims it’s true that Mesut Özil will join Fenerbahce from Arsenal. However, he adds that it may not be this month, depending on negotiations between the two clubs.

Falk reports that Özil will not give up his salary to leave Arsenal. The only possible compromise is seemingly for Fenerbahce to take part of it on, with the Gunners paying the rest. Otherwise, he’ll stay until the summer.

This contradicts David Ornstein’s report on Wednesday that Özil is willing to give up some of the money he’s owed.

Ornstein claimed Arsenal are currently set to pay him around £7m, but the two parties are in negotiations over exactly how much of that he’d receive if he terminates his contract early.

Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta claimed on Thursday that “there are some conversations going with Edu and the club at the moment (on Özil), but nothing concrete yet”.

Confusion continues to reign supreme throughout the Özil saga, and it looks like we’ll continue to hear different stories from different parties until he leaves.

Özil’s agent confirmed on Tuesday that the player has only just completed his quarantine period after visiting his family in Germany. As a result, he’s now able to go wherever he wants again and potentially finalise his exit.
