Arsenal are reportedly keen on a move for Barcelona’s goalkeeper, Neto, to provide back-up to Bernd Leno, but the 31-year-old wants assurances he just won’t get.

Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Neto from Barcelona on loan. After selling Emi Martinez and failing to land David Raya (who has a release clause this summer), Arsenal have been stuck with Alex Runarasson as number two when he was purchased to replace Matt Macey as number three.

Leaving aside queries over Runarsson’s fitness to fill even that role, Arsenal sold Martinez because the Argentine wanted assurances he would be Arsenal’s number one and Mikel Arteta told him that, not only would Leno remain as the club’s number one, he wouldn’t even be rotating his cup keepers, for the most part.

So, a report in Mundo Deportivo that claims Neto wants assurances from Arteta that he will be the number one at Arsenal seems destined to go the same way.

Barcelona also want almost £19m for him anyway, a sum that Arsenal have reportedly said is ‘excessive’.

Neto has made just nine appearances for Barcelona this season, conceding seven goals and keeping four cleansheets.

He has not played a game in La Liga since he started against Alaves in a 1-1 draw on 31 October.
