Twitter user Gilles (@_Grimanditweets) reports that a friend of Nathan Butler-Oyedeji’s family tells him the player will officially sign his first professional contract with Arsenal this summer.

The winger, who turned 18 earlier this month, started and provided an assist in the u18s 4-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend.

That was Butler-Oyedeji’s fifth appearance of the season, with injury and various match postponements limiting his chances this campaign so far. His injury problems in 2020 are presumably why he didn’t sign his professional deal sooner.

The teenager made 11 starts for the u18s last season, scoring a couple of goals and providing an assist. Funnily enough, both goals also came against Tottenham Hotspur.

Butler-Oyedeji has a habit of turning up in the North London derby, having scored a hat-trick in it at u16 level the previous year. Six goal contributions in those three games is not bad going!

He’ll want to add more goals and assists against other opponents, of course. But he’s got the talent and the versatility to play multiple positions across the front line, so it’s good to hear he’s planning to commit his future.
