Mesut Özil is now in negotiations with Arsenal to terminate his contract early, allowing him to join a new club in the January window.

Yağız Sabuncuoğlu, sports correspondent for Turkish outlet TRT Spor, claims contract termination negotiations are now underway between Mesut Özil and Arsenal.

If he saw out the rest of his deal, Özil would earn around €8m, so the negotiations are over how much of that he’ll actually receive. The two parties have already conveyed their demands to each other, but talks will continue today.

Sabuncuoğlu believes the negotiations are headed for a fairly swift resolution, though we’ll have to wait and see what that resolution is.

BeIN SPORTS reporter Mert Yuksektepe recently reported that Özil‘s move to Fenerbahce is done on a three-and-a-half-year contract, but it seems he called it a bit early.

It looks like Özil has a preliminary agreement with Fenerbahce, but no final agreement to leave Arsenal just yet. He could either move on loan, a permanent transfer for a fee (very unlikely), or terminate his deal and move as a free agent.

Sky Germany report that the 32-year-old is still happy to remain with Arsenal until the summer if they can’t find any common ground for an exit.
