TheAFCBell report that William Saliba’s agent is currently in London to hold discussions with Arsenal officials. They’re planning to talk about the player’s future, after a disappointing few months for him on an individual level.

As things stand, Saliba has still only made the Arsenal first-team squad on two occasions all season, once for the Community Shield, and then another time in the League Cup match against Leicester City in September.

Mikel Arteta chose to leave the 19-year-old out of his Europa League squad list due to the lack of available spaces, and Saliba has solely featured on the pitch for the academy sides since then.

At the moment, Saliba isn’t playing at all, as the u23s began their winter break 10 days ago. The only games available to him are the first-team matches and he’s not even making the squad for those.

Overall, Saliba is up to eight appearances for the season, making a backwards step in terms of competition compared to last season with Saint-Etienne. It must be a frustrating situation for him, as it is for the fans that have high hopes for his future.

Whatever the resolution between Saliba’s agent and Arsenal, let’s hope it’s the best for his long-term future in North London.
