David Ornstein reports that he’s ‘very recently’ heard that Arsenal are still interested in Dominik Szoboszlai, despite strong links to RB Leipzig.

Speaking in The Ornstein and Chapman Podcast, David Ornstein suggested Arsenal were more likely to sign a creative midfielder in the January transfer window than bring Mesut Özil back into the fray.

One such creative player linked to Arsenal in recent months was Dominik Szoboszlai, but in the last few weeks it started to look like a move to RB Leipzig was inevitable. However, Ornstein suggests that may not be the case, and Arsenal are still in the mix.

“We know they’ve got an interest in Szoboszlai,” Ornstein said. “There’ve been reports that he’s opted to join Leipzig which wouldn’t surprise anybody given the path from Salzburg to Leipzig.

“But personally, I’ve not heard that & very recently I’ve heard that Arsenal still are interested in him.”

Szoboszlai himself also recently denied he’d already made a final decision on his next club. Although it’s worth mentioning that Monday was the deadline for the player to inform Salzburg if he plans to leave in January via his release clause.

Any interested suitors then have to pay the €25m clause in full by December 31st. It’s possible Szoboszlai has told the club he’s leaving and it just hasn’t leaked out, but there’s nothing to confirm that yet.

If the other reports are to be believed, Szoboszlai will choose Leipzig over interest from across Europe. Sky sources claimed only the final details are missing to formalise the transfer, and both clubs want to announce it before Christmas.

TheAFCBell report that Sky’s information is valid, adding that Arsenal never made an offer, despite registering their interest in Szoboszlai. The club will continue to follow his development going forward if he joins Leipzig.
