Konstantinos Mavropanos played another 45 minutes for Stuttgart at the weekend, as they returned to winning ways against Werder Bremen.

After returning from injury, Mavropanos made his comeback start for Stuttgart against Bayern Munich at the end of last month. Unsurprisingly, Bayern came away with the win on that occasion, as they continue to dominate their domestic competitions.

Mavropanos got another chance to start at the weekend as Stuttgart took on Werder Bremen. The Arsenal loanee was playing as a right-centre-back, but it was almost a right-back role, as most of his touches came hugging the touchline.

In a combative 45 minutes, Mavropanos made a number of good clearances and interceptions, but also took a kick to the face and picked up a booking. By the end of the half, he looked at risk of a second yellow, with his team leading 1-0.

Fortunately for his club, Germany are still using the five-substitutes system we saw briefly at the end of the last English league season. Stuttgart took Mavropanos off at half-time, so they could still use three separate substitution breaks in the second half.

It doesn’t seem there’s any suggestion of an injury, it was just a tactical switch.

Mavropanos posted on social media afterwards: “Back to winning ways. Great fight, spirit & teamwork!”
