On the back of a goalless draw with Fulham last time out, Arsenal made sure to get on the scoresheet early on against Leicester City on Saturday, with Marcelo Flores setting up James Sweet’s first u18 goal.

Though he wasn’t officially credited with the assist for the second, Flores won the free-kick for Omari Hutchinson to make it 2-0. Leicester pulled one back through a Zach Awe own goal, but the Arsenal u18s beat them 2-1 in the end.

It’s not the first time Flores has missed out on official credit for an assist. Both against Southampton and West Brom earlier in the season, he put in a free-kick directly headed into the net, but both went down as own goals.

Even though his assists tally only reads ‘one’ right now, his teammates will know the part he played in all four goals, as well as the three he’s scored himself. That’s from just seven starts this season.

The 17-year-old is stepping up to the u18s very impressively, and he looks to have a bright future ahead of him. As does goalscorer Hutchinson, whose first u18 goal of the campaign added to the league-leading five assists he has so far.
