The French and English media are in disagreement over exactly what William Saliba wants to happen in January, as the transfer window edges closer.

According to a recent report in The Athletic, Saliba’s preference for a January loan is to stay within the UK, with a number of options in France if that doesn’t come off.

However, the French outlet But! Football Club directly addresses this report to suggest the opposite, that Saliba would prefer to return to Saint-Etienne. Bastien Aubert argues Saliba knows his place at his old club and wants to help them out.

Perhaps it’s not surprising that we see the English outlets under the impression he wants to stay in England, whilst the French outlets think he’s coming back to France. After all, they’ll each have sources in their country giving their own version of events.

The one thing both sides have in common is that a loan is pretty likely at this point, and Arsenal don’t want to sell the defender.

Mikel Arteta recently confirmed they’re planning to make a decision on the next steps for Saliba soon.
