Bukayo Saka scored the third in Arsenal’s 3-1 win over Chelsea on Saturday, and he made an amusing comment about his goal afterwards.

11 minutes into the second half, Bukayo Saka put Arsenal 3-0 up with a looping right-footed effort from a tight angle just inside the box.

The technique was so difficult, particularly on his weak foot, that many viewers wondered whether the teenager meant it at all. It almost looked like a mis-hit cross that happened to find the net.

But Saka wasn’t having any of that. When asked by reporters after the game, he responded with a cheeky grin on his face that “of course” he meant it, as he saw the goalkeeper “was off his line”.

Writing on Twitter afterwards, Saka reaffirmed that same sentiment.

It’s mostly just nice to see Saka with something to smile about. He’s been one of the bright sparks of a very disappointing recent run of results, and he deserves to be celebrating a goal in a win – whether he meant it or not.
