Miguel Azeez is the subject of a three-way fight between England, Spain, and Nigeria to secure his international services at senior level.
Goal report that Miguel Azeez is drawing interest from both Spain and Nigeria, despite turning out for the England youth teams up until now. He qualifies for Spain through his mother and Nigeria through his father.
Both countries have expressed an interest in him going forward, but he’s yet to make a decision about where his senior allegiances lie.
These decisions often come down to where the player feels they’ll actually get games, so I wouldn’t expect the midfielder to make up his mind anytime soon.
If England offered him a senior call-up for the next break, I’m sure that would sway his thinking, just as failing to call him up for the next few years would. But England have a lot of young talent to manage at the moment, and Azeez is only up to the u19s so far.
The midfielder is slowly starting to make his way into the Arsenal first team, after appearing in the squad for the first time against Molde last week. That will start to put him on the map a bit more internationally.
Azeez signed his first professional contract with Arsenal in 2019. According to reports, it was an initial three-year deal with the option to extend for a further two, taking him to 2024.
At 17, that’s basically the longest contract you’re going to get. Arsenal were clearly showing a lot of faith in the teenager, and they’ll hope he repays it over the coming years.
