Zak Swanson is back at London Colney with Arsenal after the cancellation of his loan deal with MVV Maastricht earlier this month.
Swanson went on loan to MVV Maastricht in the Netherlands this summer, but his spell there didn’t go to plan. After an initial period of isolation due to Covid, Swanson grew homesick and struggled to get regular game-time.
As a result, Arsenal made the decision to recall him early, even though he wouldn’t be able to go back out on loan until January.
The player is back working hard at London Colney, as he confirmed with a post on his Instagram story alongside fellow youngster Ben Cottrell.
Arsenal certainly haven’t lost faith in the 20-year-old. Jeorge Bird reports that they’re looking to tie him to a new contract lasting all the way to 2024. The Maastricht loan just wasn’t the right fit and didn’t work out.
The Arsenal u23s are currently on their winter break from fixtures, so Swanson won’t get a chance to feature for them before January. The most likely next step is that he finds a new loan when the window opens, probably remaining in England this time.
