The Athletic report that prior to all the recent scouting changes, Arsenal had watched Barcelona midfielder Riqui Puig on several occasions. The player has fallen out with manager Ronald Koeman, and he’s likely to be available for transfer next month.

Leeds United are reportedly interested, but Puig seemingly fits the profile Arsenal are looking for. He also shouldn’t cost a huge amount, considering his current situation at Barcelona. However, he’s young and inexperienced, which will count against him.

Puig has made four appearances this season, all from the bench. Three were in the Champions League group stage, earning 25 minutes in each of the final three matches, whilst his only other game-time was right at the end of a league defeat to Getafe.

The 21-year-old has made the bench without making an appearance in 15 matches this season. You can understand why that has led to frustration, constantly preparing and travelling to matches he has no chance to play in.

Puig is a strong passer and creator, as well as a good dribbler. That’s certainly what Arsenal need, but we’ll see if they’re willing to take a chance on another Barcelona outcast.
