Granit Xhaka has enjoyed what you could reasonably call a ‘tense’ relationship with Arsenal fans. When he was able to play well, fans largely left him alone, but that happens so rarely he is often the focus of the fanbases’ ire.

Stripped of the captaincy after telling fans to f**k off, something he still hasn’t apologised for properly, it was all just swept under the carpet and forgotten about as Xhaka went about putting his head down and playing quite well under Mikel Arteta at the start.

Now, however, his form, like the rest of the side, is in the toilet and fans aren’t happy.

So, the news the club could sell him in January is likely to be met with a mix of surprise – that the club would sell a player Arteta seems to like – and delight that we could get a hefty chunk of change for him to buy a replacement.

According to Eurosport, it all depends on the club receiving a ‘suitable’ offer.

Xhaka, 28, is currently valued at around £25.2m and has 2-and-a-half years left on his Arsenal contract.

Arsenal paid £40.5m for the midfielder from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2016 and Xhaka has started eight of Arsenal’s 11 league games this season.
