Arsenal are open to offers for Granit Xhaka, despite his regular appearances for the club in 2020, according to a report.

The Daily Mail claim that despite Granit Xhaka playing regularly under Mikel Arteta, the club are open to offers for him in the upcoming windows.

Xhaka still has a contract until 2023, but his red card at the weekend is reportedly reinforcing internal beliefs that he’s dispensable.

Arteta described Xhaka’s red card as ‘unacceptable’ after the game, though he later added that the matter had been resolved internally.

Speaking to the press ahead of Arsenal’s Premier League game, Arteta said about Xhaka, ”

“He [Granit] has [had a few rocky moments] and he’s not the only one.

“There’s a lot of players who have had rocky moments. What I can say about Granit is that his professionalism and his commitment with the club and with his teammates is maximum.

“He knows and we know that he had a moment where he lost it and I know the reason why, but what I cannot do is just throw everything that he has done away just because he made a mistake.

“We have all made mistakes and I am here as well to protect the players when I see that they deserve that and for sure, Granit is one of them for the way he approaches every training session and the way he wants to do things in the right way all the time and the professional that he is.”

The one thing I will say about this story is that we heard very similar things about Nicolas Pepe in the immediate aftermath of his red card against Leeds United.

Arteta quickly shut the rumours down afterwards, saying: “No, it’s absolutely not [the end of his Arsenal career]. It’s not about that and I don’t like that type of statement. I will give Nico my full support all the time.”

Arteta may well extend a similar redemption opportunity to Xhaka. They’re different players, so perhaps Arsenal planned to sell Xhaka anyway. But it’s probably best to wait for everything to blow over before assuming the current negative reports are true.
