The Mirror report that Arsenal are eyeing a move for Brighton right-back Tariq Lamptey as a potential replacement for Hector Bellerin. They aren’t the only ones, with Manchester City and Bayern Munich also listed among Lamptey’s suitors.

Barcelona are reportedly looking to bring Bellerin back next summer, though Mikel Arteta isn’t keen to lose him.

The Mirror previously claimed that sources in Spain suggest an agreement is already in place between Barcelona presidential candidate Joan Laporta and Hector Bellerin’s camp to try and negotiate a deal with Arsenal for a transfer.

A figure of £22m plus add-ons is being discussed and Bellerin is open to the move, despite having a deal to 2023. However, he’ll only consider leaving Arsenal next summer, not in January.

Bellerin’s position in the Arsenal side was starting to look a little dubious after Ainsley Maitland-Niles recently took his spot for a couple of games. But the defender hit back with a strong performance against Chelsea at the weekend.

It’s certainly convenient this story about Lamptey is coming out just before Arsenal travel to Brighton on Tuesday. Almost as if the journalists needed something to ask Mikel Arteta at his pre-match press conference.
