Some fans might even go to the lengths of claiming that football is synonymous to Arsenal.

One of the oldest clubs in the domain, Arsenal has about 28 major domestic trophies and several more accolades under its belt. In the article that we have here, we shall delve into the history of this celebrated football club and also look into all that went into the making of this club as one of the finest in the history of football.

Arsenal- A History:

It was in 1886 that Arsenal FC began its journey with the name Dial Square. It was a workers’ team, and the workers in the team were blacksmiths who would build cannons. This is also the reason that the club is also known as the Gunners. However, shortly thereafter, the team changed its name to Woolwich Arsenal and became a professional football team. It was absorbed as a member of the Football League sometime in 1893 and began operating in full-swing. It was also the first-ever football club from the Southern parts of the country.

However, the club did not have it easy in their initial years. The period was challenging and wrought with impediments. The team teetered dangerously close to bankruptcy for several years until a businessman names Henry Norris bought the club in 1910. Soon after, the club was moved to North London in 1913 and Highbury became its new home. The year after that, the club was finally renamed as Arsenal.

Arsenal’s Sharp Rise to Prominence:

The club hired Herbert Chapman as its manager in 1925 and soon rose to prominence. Chapman brought in several modern changes into the club. He also made several efficient changes to the club’s traditional 2-3-5 formation.

In 1930, after signing several celebrated players, Arsenal won its first major trophy, defeating Huddersfield Town in the FA Cup final. And this paved the way for the club’s many more trophies and thus, began a fruitful period. It was in the 30s that Arsenal claimed victory to five major leagues and also won another FA Cup trophy.

Recent Years:

Just like every club, Arsenal, which is one of the major and the most famous clubs, has been witnessing a series of losses and major injuries to its star players. These injuries and disappointing losses would tail the club off in the title race.

However, Arsenal proved its mettle all over again in the FA Cup, winning the competition in 2014, 2015, 2017, and 2020. Those four cups have made the club one of the most successful clubs in the history of the competition.

However, the losses and the missing trophies also led to bidding farewell to Arsène Wenger in May 2018, after spending 22 years in association with the club.
