Christopher Nkunku is catching the eye at Arsenal, who are dealing with the player ahead of a potential transfer, according to a report.

Sport Bild (via Sport Witness) claim Christopher Nkunku is an exciting prospect to English clubs, namely Arsenal. They add that the Frenchman is ‘dealing’ with the Gunners but don’t elaborate on that.

The German outlet expect Leipzig to want at least €40m for the midfielder, who has a contract until 2024.

There’s no suggestion Nkunku actually wants to leave. In fact, he claimed the opposite over the summer.

“I haven’t come to Leipzig just to disappear right away. I’m not running off to a bigger club. I want to win something with RB,” Nkunku said in July.

The situation could easily change by next summer, of course. Arsenal will hope so, as Nkunku is proving a talented midfield option in Germany. With six goals and 19 assists in 55 appearances so far, he could add the kind of creativity the Gunners are lacking.

On the other hand, there are always concerns when signing a player in such a well-drilled system as Julian Nagelsmann’s. It’s hard to say how well the 22-year-old would perform in a different setup.

With Paris Saint-Germain, Nkunku showed flashes of what he can do but found himself regularly consigned to the bench. He’s still waiting on his debut for the France senior side.

So there will still be some doubters for now. Needless to say, if he can replicate his Leipzig form with Arsenal, Nkunku would certainly improve the team.
