After scoring the winning goal in Oldham Athletic’s last match against Cheltenham on Tuesday, Arsenal loanee Harry Clarke was back in the starting lineup for his first-ever FA Cup fixture against non-league Hampton & Richmond Borough.

Once again, he helped Oldham to a win with a strong defensive performance. He made six clearances, two interceptions, one tackle, and blocked a shot without being dribbled past once. He also won both of his ground duels and four of seven in the air.

Oldham fans on Twitter described him as the “best player today” and one of “the only players who looked like they played at a higher level”. Scraping through 3-2, you can understand why the supporters were less happy with some of the other players.

Currently 19th in League Two, Oldham need all the help they can get from Clarke. A couple of wins last week, largely thanks to his contributions, are definitely a positive step.
