Earlier this week, there was some speculation in the media about the future of Arsenal’s 17-year-old goalkeeper Ovie Ejeheri.

Sky Sports reported there’s a three-way battle for his international future, between England, Nigeria, and Uganda.

There’s also uncertainty at club level, as he doesn’t have a professional Arsenal deal. A number of Premier League clubs are watching him ahead of a potential move if he becomes available.

Ejeheri spent most of last season out with injury, but he’s starting to come into the starting lineup for the u18s now. He started in the last match against Norwich City, only losing his clean sheet in the final minutes with Arsenal 5-0 up and cruising.

The teenager successfully kept a clean sheet this weekend, in very different circumstances. In a tense 0-0 draw with Fulham, the away side had the majority of the chances, including four shots on goal. Ejeheri was equal to the challenge to earn his team a point.

Whether this brief recent run of starts is a sign that Ejeheri is nailing down a starting spot, potentially leading to a professional deal further down the line, we’ll have to wait and see.

For now, he’s justifying the speculation around him with positive performances.
