New Arsenal signing Thomas Partey played the full 90 minutes of Ghana’s final game of the international break on Monday, providing a couple of assists in a 5-1 win for his country.

The first was admittedly probably a shot, as he fired the ball towards the bottom corner. Andre Ayew intercepted the effort from an onside position and turned to slot home. There were no doubts about the quality of the second assist though.

Partey picked up the ball in his own half, feinting to go left before using the space on the right to lift a long ball into the path of Samuel Owusu. Owusu raced onto the pass and only needed one touch before finishing it off.

Arsenal didn’t sign Partey to be the creative hub of the team. His defensive prowess and his ability to progress the play forward with his dribbling and progressive passing are his obvious strengths.

But he can also contribute in the final third, and this was a good example. He certainly has the quality to chip in with a few goals and assists from time to time.

As for what’s next, Arsenal are expecting Partey to arrive at London Colney on Wednesday. He can finally take some photos in his new club shirt, hold an interview or two, and start preparing for Manchester City this weekend.
