Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah did what he does best against Andorra on Wednesday, scoring a close-range finish to give the England u21s the lead. Though it wasn’t enough for the win, it did make him their joint-top scorer of all-time, with Alan Shearer and Francis Jeffers.

England u21 coach Aidy Boothroyd made the rather unwise decision to bench a few of his top players against Andorra, even though a win would’ve effectively guaranteed the team qualification to the u21 European Championships. So Nketiah didn’t start.

England went behind in the first half, before retaking the lead for themselves in the second. However, they never put the game to bed, and it was still in the balance when Nketiah came on.

Minutes later, Andorra equalised, but Nketiah restored their lead after new Palace signing Eberechi Eze played him in.

Once again, Andorra struck back to level the scores and draw the game. That’s always the risk you run when you don’t play the players who can kill the game earlier.

Individually, Nketiah did well. He completed all his nine passes, one long ball and scored his only chance. England now need him to go and break their goalscoring record in the next game against Turkey, to help ensure their qualification.
