There’s undoubtedly a lot of talent in the Arsenal u18 team right now, but they were still settling at this level in the early weeks of the season. After three wins and three defeats, they were still looking for a performance to really get their season going.

It looked like they found their feet against Norwich City on Saturday, with a dominant display.

Khayon Edwards gave Arsenal the lead within six minutes, before Kido Taylor-Hart doubled the advantage in the 14th. 11 minutes later, it was 3-0 as the two combined for Edwards to set up Taylor-Hart’s second goal. Norwich hardly even had a shot in the first half.

After the break, Edwards set up Taylor-Hart again for 4-0 around the hour mark. After completing his hat-trick, Taylor-Hart came off for Nathan Butler-Oyedeji.

That didn’t slow the team down, with Charlie Patino setting up Luke Plange for Arsenal’s fifth of the day. They then made their final two changes, with Billy Vigar and Marcelo Flores coming on for Plange and Zane Monlouis.

Finally taking their foot off the gas, 5-0 up after all the substitutions, Arsenal saw Norwich pull one back through Alex Matos in the 86th minute. It was a shame to lose the clean sheet for u18 debutant Ovie Ejeheri, who had made a few saves.

But it wasn’t enough to dampen the Arsenal youngsters’ moods, with the 5-1 win taking them above Chelsea and Spurs in the table, albeit having played a game more.

Next up, Arsenal face Reading away on 7th November at 11:00 GMT.
