Arsenal and Rochdale both officially confirmed Tolaji Bola’s loan move to the League One club on Thursday, with the left-back joining until January.

Chris Fitzgerald initially reported that Rochdale had secured the loan of Bola. It’s the first few months of senior football for the defender.

Arsenal have taken different approaches with different players for their youth loans so far. For example, Daniel Ballard is on loan until January, Zech Medley until the end of the season, Ben Sheaf until the end of the season with an option to buy.

It all depends on the specific cases of each player and club. However, today has brought a couple more loans to January, with Bola joining Rochdale and Dejan Iliev joining Shrewsbury Town.

It’s certainly no surprise to see Bola going on a loan. After 50 appearances for the Arsenal u23s and none for the first team, he needs one. He missed out on the u23 game at the weekend in anticipation of today’s move.

Bola trained with the Arsenal first-team fairly regularly this year. But at 21, he needs matches.
