Arsenal confirmed the signing of teenage winger Joel Ideho from Ajax on Tuesday, with the 17-year-old likely to join the u23s this season.

Arsenal write that Joel Ideho is joining from Ajax on a professional contract. They add that he’ll join up with the Professional Development Phase this season, meaning the u18s to the u23s.

Realistically, I’d expect to see Ideho in the u23s very soon, if not immediately. Steve Bould’s side are lacking a right-winger, playing central midfielders out on the flank in recent matches. Ideho made the majority of his appearances for Ajax on the right.

The 17-year-old really didn’t make many appearances for Ajax, however. He was playing for Willem II last season and only moved to Ajax in July. It’s therefore rather surprising to see him moving on again so soon, but Arsenal were clearly keen to bring him in.

Ideho made just two starts for Ajax youth teams, playing a total of 243 minutes. He scored a really nice goal in the UEFA Youth League win over FC Midtjylland during a substitute showing.

Back in April, before joining Ajax, the player himself posted a video compilation of his performances for Willem II. Hopefully, he can settle in well and show the same talent for Arsenal in the coming weeks and months.
