Lyon reportedly accepted a €27m bid from Hertha Berlin for Jeff Reine-Adelaide this week, just a year after buying him for €25m.

RMC Sport (via GFFN) report that Lyon accepted a €27m bid for Jeff Reine-Adelaide this week. Just a year after buying the midfielder for €25m, he’s already on the way out, though he still needs to agree personal terms.

The player prefers to move to Rennes, but the Ligue 1 side are only offering €25m with add-ons. Lyon rejected that bid to accept the €27m Berlin offer instead.

Funnily enough, this actually means Arsenal made more of a profit on Reine-Adelaide than Lyon. The Gunners bought the player in a double deal with Yassin Fortune for £3m combined, before selling for £1.44m. But they then made another £4.6m in a sell-on clause.

As a result, the minimum profit on Reine-Adelaide is £3.04m, if we assume the entirety of the original £3m paid to Lens was for him and not Fortune. A £6.04m sale overall, minus that initial £3m purchase fee.

A fairer estimation of the purchase fee, splitting it 50/50 with Fortune, makes the club’s profit on Reine-Adelaide £4.54m.

Either way, it’s greater than the €2m profit Lyon are making after their year of ownership.

Lyon have a sell-on clause of their own with Hertha, so they could still make more if he does well there. But the 22-year-old needs to avoid further injuries and play regularly for that to be likely. He picked up a cruciate ligament rupture in 2019/20, the latest of many injuries in his young career so far.
