One of Arsenal’s many loanees this season, Dejan Iliev was among the latest to make their debut this weekend. He started his first League One game away to AFC Wimbledon on Saturday, which was also his first senior game in English football.

By all accounts, it went well. Shrewsbury kept a clean sheet, and it wasn’t for lack of trying on Wimbledon’s part. The hosts totally dominated the chances, but Iliev was equal to each effort on goal.

Iliev made three saves, one successful run out to prevent a chance and one high claim. You can see some of his saves in Shrewsbury Town’s highlight package for the match:

The Shropshire Star wrote that Iliev was “busy in goal on his Town debut” and “made an impressive save in each half”. The fans clearly enjoyed the display too, with one calling the goalkeeper “excellent”.

Those supporters will hope for better performances from their team this season, but from Iliev individually, this was a strong start.
