Arsenal confirmed on Tuesday that Gabriel Magalhaes is the club’s Player of the Month for September. He won 72% of the vote, with Alexandre Lacazette and Hector Bellerin in second and third place. It’s not often you see such a one-sided poll of the fans.

Gabriel played against Fulham and West Ham in September, winning the official Man of the Match award in the first and the fan award in the second. He scored on his debut and made a great start for a young player new to the league.

Perhaps just as importantly, Arsenal lost 3-1 in the only Premier League game Gabriel didn’t play. The supporters obviously quickly take to players who are involved in wins and left out of defeats.

Gabriel also kept a clean sheet at Anfield and helped Arsenal to another win over Sheffield United in the first two games of October. Technically, these shouldn’t count towards the September award, but you know they’ll influence the fan vote.

It’s worth mentioning that it’s very common to see new signings win these awards. But in this case, Gabriel deserves recognition for his performances so far.
