Tottenham Hotspur confirmed the signing of Tobi Omole this week, after his summer release by Arsenal left him searching for a new club.

Tottenham Hotspur confirmed the signing of former Arsenal academy defender Tobi Omole at the weekend, though it was somewhat hidden away.

Spurs wrote in their Southampton match report: “Marcel Lavinier…[and] Tobi Omole appeared off the bench in the second half, both players having signed contracts with our Under-23s until the end of the season.”

Former Gunner Tobi Omole came off the bench for Tottenham Hotspur u23s in their match against Arsenal last week, as part of his trial with the club.

Arsenal released the defender over the summer, with his contract reaching its end. The 20-year-old was a versatile option for the team, playing at both left-back and centre-back last season, but he struggled to break into the side fully.

In the 2019/20 campaign, Omole made nine appearances and just five starts. Given his age and the fact he wasn’t close to the first team, it wasn’t a huge surprise to see Arsenal deciding not to extend.

It’s certainly an interesting situation with Jonathan Dinzeyi going the other way. Almost all of the above applies to Dinzeyi the opposite way around.

Dinzeyi is also 20 and made six appearances for Spurs’ u23s in 2019/20. He didn’t get particularly close to the first team before leaving on a free to join Arsenal. Like Omole, he made the bench for the North London derby on Saturday.

Hopefully, Arsenal made the right calls on both of them, but we’ll see.
