With just over a day to go until the summer transfer deadline, much of the talk is about whether Mikel Arteta can add a new signing or two to his Arsenal squad.

Arsenal racked up another win against Sheffield United this weekend, their sixth in seven games this season. But the performance wasn’t always sparkling, and everyone seems to be in agreement that the club need midfield reinforcements.

Arteta wouldn’t confirm that they’re targeting a midfielder, but he told the media they’re trying to finalise deals if they can Despite theories to the contrary, he also insists he has the full backing of the board to do so.

“I am confident we know exactly what we want to do,” Arteta said (via Football.London). “We are trying our best to finalise the deals. Let’s see what happens.

“I cannot comment [on players]. At the moment there is nothing definite. What I can guarantee is we are doing our maximum.

“I think that I always try to be honest and clear. I have 100% backing from them [the board]. I wouldn’t say that if I didn’t.”

Be that as it may, we really are running out of time now. There really doesn’t seem any for a new signing out of the blue, so we’re looking at the revival of links to the likes of Houssem Aouar, Thomas Partey and Jorginho.
