Wolves are preparing a new offer for Ainsley Maitland-Niles, who is planning to prioritise playing time in his decision this summer.

The Daily Mail claim Wolves are preparing a new offer for Ainsley Maitland-Niles in the current transfer window. They previously made a laughably poor bid of around £15m for the player, which Arsenal dismissed.

The Telegraph add that Wolves are ready to make another attempt to sign the player. Nuno Espirito Santo wants him to replace Matt Doherty, who recently joined Spurs. Both outlets claim Maitland-Niles values playing time above anything else in his decision.

Arsenal then set a price tag of £25m, amid interest from Newcastle United. But after the player’s performance in the Community Shield and his England senior call-up, Arsenal reconsidered selling the player at all.

At the time, there were also rumours that Arsenal might sell Hector Bellerin to PSG. This would give Maitland-Niles more of a chance in the team, and encourage him to stay. But that transfer for Bellerin is seemingly off.

I did question at the time if this might put Maitland-Niles back on the market. Without any guarantees of a starting spot and with his valuation as high as ever, Arsenal may want to cash in and use the money to invest in midfield.

It all relies on Wolves getting serious, though. If they come back with another low bid, there’s no way Arsenal should consider it. They can’t be seen as pushovers in key deals like these. Wolves need to massively up their offer before negotiations reopen.
