Jaume Monell says his client David Raya will ‘do what is necessary’ to push a move through to Arsenal, including handing in a transfer request.

Sport report that Jaume Monell, agent to David Raya, confirmed to them that they’ll hand in a transfer request if Brentford refuse to negotiate his departure with Arsenal. He added: “We will do what is necessary.”

Arsenal already tried to bid for the goalkeeper, but Brentford don’t want to sell. The Gunners are offering Raya a long-term contract, seeing him as one for the future with them.

Given Emi Martinez’s impending departure, this would keep the club with two strong options in goal over the coming seasons.

Mikel Arteta is a fan of Raya, but it’s likely Inaki Cana is playing a big part in their pursuit. Cana worked as a goalkeeping coach at Brentford before joining Arsenal. The two did well together, and the team conceded the second-fewest in the Championship last season.

Yet despite also scoring the most in the division, Brentford failed to achieve promotion. Raya is facing another second in the English second-tier, so it’s not hard to see why he’s keen to accept Arsenal’s offer.

With a contract until 2023, however, Brentford have to show some flexibility to make it happen.
