Luis Suarez will sign a two-year deal with Atletico Mardid after Barcelona agreed a £5.5m fee with their La Liga rivals.
“FC Barcelona and Atlético Madrid have reached an agreement for the transfer of the player Luis Suárez,” the Spanish club said in a statement.
“The Madrid club will pay FC Barcelona €6m in variables. FC Barcelona would like to publicly express their gratitude to Luis Suárez for his commitment and dedication and wishes him all the best for the future.”
Barcelona have also said there will be a farewell event for Suárez on Thursday afternoon.
Suarez signed for Barcelona a year after Liverpool ignored his clause that was triggered by Arsenal’s infamous £40m+£1 bid.
The 33-year-old scored 198 goals, with 109 assists, in just 283 games for Barcelona. He cost them £73.55m.
