The entourage of Lucas Torreira are indicating that AS Roma are still an option for the player this summer, according to a report in Italy.

Paolo Rocchetti reports that Roma are ‘still a possibility’ for Lucas Torreira, according to the player’s representatives. They join a number of other clubs in the race for the Arsenal midfielder right now.

Lucas Torreira reportedly agreed personal terms to join Atletico Madrid last week. However, the Spanish side are making things difficult in negotiations with Arsenal, which could allow Italian sides like Roma and Torino back into the race.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Atletico are only offering a loan move at this stage. Even that depends on whether they can sell Hector Herrera. Arsenal want a permanent deal, so there’s a way to go to reach an agreement.

Matteo Pedrosi confirms that there’s no progress on a potential loan move for the player, with Arsenal focusing on a sale. He adds that the Gunners are also dealing with Torino for a loan with an obligation to buy.

The media linked Roma with a move earlier in the window, but it didn’t initially go very far. Perhaps they were just biding their time for a late bid.

According to reports in England from The Telegraph, a loan with an obligation is an acceptable compromise to Arsenal. But ideally, they want one with Atletico, and a similar deal for Thomas Partey in return.

In order for Torino or Roma to win the race, they need to make another higher offer. One of them needs to start trying to find a fair compromise.
