Arsenal travel to Anfield on Monday night for the first of their double-header against Jurgen Klopp’s men, so who is in and who is out?
Arsenal will be without at least seven players when they travel to Liverpool on Monday night and it could be even more.
Cedric Soares (right calf), Calum Chambers (knee), Gabriel Martinelli (knee), Pablo Mari (ankle), Shkodran Mustafi (hamstring), Sokratis (transferitis) and Emile Smith Rowe (shoulder) will all miss out. That’s seven.
In addition, Lucas Torreira continues to struggle with transferitis while Mikel Arteta made it quite clear this week we’ll never see Mesut Ozil again. Matteo Guendouzi may or may not have handed in a transfer request, but he won’t feature either if recent precedent is anything to go by. That’s 10.
William Saliba, although on the bench against Leicester, will most likely not feature either given what Arteta said about the teenager needing to adapt to the Premier league and life in England.
Kieran Tierney could feature after withdrawing from the starting lineup against West Ham last weekend with a hip problem. He is back in full training. As you might remember, Tierney suffered hip and groin problems at Celtic that bled into his time at Arsenal when he first arrived.
Liverpool, meanwhile, will be without Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (knee), Joel Matip and Jordan Henderson. They could also be without Allison and Thiago.
“I think Joe should be back today in training, that’s what everybody told me – and nobody told me something different since,” Jurgen Klopp said at his pre-match press conference.
“Billy [Koumetio] the kid is back in training. Joel not, pretty much. Hendo not yet, that was clear – this game is for sure too early. I think that’s it, pretty much.”
Klopp also spoke about if Thiago would play. We will see, we will see,” he replied. “We have a few days to train, some boys have to recover from last night, so we will see how we set up against Arsenal.
“I have an idea, but why should I make the decision today when we have time until Monday? But he is in contention, for sure. Yeah, let’s see.”
