ESPN report that Arsenal hope to announce Willian in the coming days, after he decided on the Gunners over extending with Chelsea.

Manchester City and Manchester United also reportedly made inquiries in recent days, but Willian preferred the security of a three-year deal in North London.

David Ornstein wrote on Tuesday morning that Arsenal were one of two teams remaining in the race for the player. Whilst Barcelona, MLS side Inter Miami and others showed interest, often offering more money, it was down to just Arsenal and an unnamed club.

Mikel Arteta and Edu seemingly made a positive impression on Willian. Arteta asked for the club to complete a deal, and they see it as worth the wages despite his age. The Brazilian will be 32 soon.

Sam Dean claims Arsenal are ‘hopeful’ of getting the free transfer over the line. Arteta wants to add experience to his squad and sees Willian as a good way to do that. James Olley adds the player isn’t happy with the lack of progress in talks with Chelsea.

At the moment, all the signs are pointing towards a move in the near future. The situation can still change, and Chelsea still technically have a Champions League campaign to complete this month. But Arsenal are in pole position for the signing.
