Former Arsenal and Barcelona man, Emmanuel Petit, warned Lionel Messi against a move to the Premier League this summer.

With Barcelona seemingly no longer a happy home for Lionel Messi, there is a very real chance he could rock up in the Premier League this summer, rejoining Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

The Argentine reportedly has a clause in his contract that allows him to leave Barcelona for free this summer and City, of course, are being heavily linked.

Emmanuel Petit, however,  warned that such a move may not be great for Messi as we all wonder if we will finally get the answer to how he would fare on a wet Wednesday in Stoke (though that certainly won’t be in a Premier League match with the Potters finishing 15th in the Championship last season.

“Honestly, I don’t think he’s suited to the intensity of England,” Petit told the Daily Mirror.

“He doesn’t like being closed down and being fought.

“In Spain, he’s protected.

“It would be a pleasure for English fans to see him but I don’t see why a club like Manchester City, for example, would move for Messi at 32 or 33.

“If City wanted to buy him, they should have tried to do it a couple of years ago.”

Arsenal will of course, not be trying to buy him even though they are being linked, although Arsene Wenger admitted he thought about it in 2003, but said the player was ‘untouchable‘.
