Joseph Olowu and Cork City are starting to put a run of results together, with the Arsenal loan centre-back helping his team to three consecutive clean sheets.

Olowu started in a big 3-0 win for Cork City against Sligo Rovers on Friday, to make it three consecutive clean sheets for the side. It was only their second win of the league campaign, lifting them up to eighth in the table.

Last time out, Cork City scored an 121st-minute winner in a 1-0 cup victory over Longford Town. Before that, they draw 0-0 in a league game against Waterford. As a result, it’s now 386 minutes since they last conceded a goal, in the fourth minute against Bohemians.

Olowu had a mild injury concern in the cup victory over Longford, but it turned out it was nothing serious. At least not enough to keep him out of City’s latest win.

The Arsenal loanee was clearly in high spirits after the game, writing on social media: “What a feeling that was tonight, team put in a solid performance. We keep going @CorkCityFC.”

Olowu initially had a rough restart earlier this month, with Bohemian’s early goal in their first game back and a potential red card incident. At the time, we pointed out he was probably still getting up to speed after returning to training later than teammates thanks to a quarantine.

Things are looking up now. It’s up to the 20-year-old to keep pushing and help his team find some consistency.
