Arsenal confirmed Trae Coyle’s move to Gillingham on Thursday, with the teenager finalising a season-long loan move to the League One club. He follows fellow Arsenal academy youngster Zech Medley in making the transfer.

Coyle made 18 appearances for the Arsenal u23s across the Premier League 2 and in their run to the Premier League International Cup semi-finals this season, scoring three and assisting three from the wing. He also appeared twice for the u21s in their EFL Trophy campaign.

After the youth season ended early, Coyle joined the first-team squad in training. He made his senior debut in a friendly against Brentford but didn’t make it onto the pitch for a competitive match.

It’s definitely the right time for him to go on loan. After breaking into the u18s at the age of 15, it’s somewhat surprising that Coyle is still waiting for his first competitive senior minutes a few months before his 20th birthday. Now he has that chance at last.
