Oxford United announced the loan signing of Marcus McGuane from Nottingham Forest on Saturday morning. McGuane joined Forest from FC Barcelona earlier this year, cancelling a loan to SC Telstar to join the Championship club.

Now, he’s out on loan again, but in England this time. The former Arsenal academy midfielder will play in League One this season before returning to Forest at the end of the campaign.

The 21-year-old has quite the career path already. From the Arsenal academy to Barcelona B, to making his senior debut for the Barcelona first team, then a loan to SC Telstar, a move to Nottingham Forest and now a loan to Oxford United.

The England u19 international didn’t get much of a chance to make an impression with his parent club this year. He completed his transfer in late February right before the coronavirus disruptions. He’ll hope to prove himself with this loan in League One now.

McGuane said: “The aim is to get regular games and push on from there. Training has been hard so far but I’ve really enjoyed it and you can see there are some really good players here…I am determined to make the most of this opportunity.”
