Atletico Madrid remain sure Thomas Partey will stay with them this summer despite interest from Arsenal, according to reports.

Matteo Moretto claims that to this day, Atletico Madrid believe Thomas Partey will remain in Spain for next season. Despite some conflicting reports on whether Arsenal will pay the player’s release clause, it seems Atletico feel secure that they’ll hold onto the midfielder.

To an extent, Atletico only have so much say in the matter. If Arsenal decide they’re going to pay the release clause, it’s only up to the player himself to stop the deal. That doesn’t seem particularly likely, as Partey appears keen on the move.

Other recent reports from Spain suggest Arsenal aren’t going to pay the clause, however. They’ve reportedly told Atletico as much, which is presumably why the La Liga side are so certain the transfer won’t happen.

The situation could still change. If Arsenal manage to offload one or two of their current midfielders, the €50m clause will seem much more attainable. The likes of Matteo Guendouzi and Lucas Torreira are seemingly on the market, so that’s a possibility.
