Arsenal aren’t in for Thiago Alcantara this summer despite reports to the contrary, according to Bild journalist Christian Falk.

Christian Falk reports that the rumours of Arsenal interest in Thiago this summer are ‘not true’. Reports had suggested that the Gunners were eyeing up a move for the midfielder, who is reportedly available for £23m this summer.

Liverpool are the team with the strongest links to the Bayern Munich man, though they aren’t willing to pay so much for the player in the final year of his contract. The Bundesliga club are hoping to cash in before they lose him for free.

Thiago made 40 appearances this season, though he did suffer with injury problems towards the end of the campaign. The Spanish international picked up a groin strain in May, returning briefly in June before having to undergo surgery.

That forced him out of the final league games of the campaign, but he returned to help Bayern win the DFB Pokal and the Champions League in July and August respectively.

The 29-year-old is still clearly one of the top midfielders around. However, his injury history and age are clearly making teams hesitate to pay Bayern’s asking price.

Whatever happens with him this summer, it looks unlikely Arsenal will play any part.
