Although Cazorla will finish as one of Villarreal’s players of the season, if not the main one, he has realised that his body cannot continue to perform at such a high level following the injury problems that almost cost him his foot.

As such, he has reportedly made the decision to join Xavi in Qatar at Al Saad.

Villarreal began their goodbyes to him on Saturday ahead of what will be his final game for the club on Sunday against Eibar. There will be a tribute after the game to both Santi and Bruno Soriano, who is also leaving the club.

Speaking on Instagram live (via Marca) just over a  week ago, Al Sadd press officer Ahmad Al-Ansari claimed they were in ‘very advanced’ talks to bring Santi Cazorla to the club this summer.

It is hoped he will one day return to Arsenal to take up a coaching role in the not-to-distant future.
