Arsenal put four players up for their June Player of the Month award, with Kieran Tierney joining Bukayo Saka, Granit Xhaka and Nicolas Pepe. Tierney ended up winning with 40% of the fan votes, with Saka in second place and Xhaka in third.

Personally, it’s a little surprising to me Pepe finished fourth after his two goals and encouraging performances. But then, as I said when the nominations came out, all four had a good claim to the award. Whichever player ended up last probably would’ve surprised me.

It’s no real shock to see who finished first, though. Tierney won Man of the Match in the quarter-final win over Sheffield United, and performed well against Manchester City and Southampton too. Particularly given he played multiple positions against City.

The 23-year-old continued that good form on into early July against Norwich and Wolves. That’s not meant to influence the June Player of the Month votes, of course, but we all know it helps.

Congratulations to the Scotland international on his first award with Arsenal!
