Roy Hodgson says Wilfried Zaha has made no secret of wanting to leave Crystal Palace, although it still depends on the offers they get for him.

Speaking to the media this week, Roy Hodgson didn’t hide the fact that Wilfried Zaha wants to leave the club.

“Wilf has made it clear, ever since I came to the club really, that he would relish a move and would like to move on and find some pastures new,” Hodgson said. “But he’s a very valuable player and the club realises his value and appreciates his value.

“So really everything will depend I guess  – as it always does – [on] what sort of offers the club is going to receive for him.

“How they will equate that with the need to keep him or the need, maybe, to satisfy his wishes, and allow him to go after giving good service to the club for a period of time.”

We all know that Arsenal considered a move for Zaha last summer. Unai Emery was the driving force behind the transfer, but when Palace started putting up a valuation of close to £100m, the Gunners board opted for Nicolas Pepe instead.

There’s no doubt that Zaha himself wanted the move to Arsenal. As a boyhood fan of the club, it was pretty much the dream scenario for him. A year later, it seems he’d be just as keen to make that step across London.

It’s just hard to see it happening. Arsenal could use a left-winger, but only if they made a major attacking sale first. Otherwise, their budget should go on midfielders and defenders.

It’s not impossible Arsenal sell Alexandre Lacazette or Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and look to replace them with a winger. Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Martinelli could step up in central areas. But it won’t happen if Palace’s valuation doesn’t come down.
