On Monday morning, Al Sadd SC announced their agreement to bring former Gunner Santi Cazorla to the club. They added that the player will reach Doha imminently to complete the formalities of the move and join the team.

Cazorla played his final game of 2019/20 over the weekend, starting in a 4-0 victory over SD Eibar. The win helped Villarreal secure a top-five finish and Europa League football for next year.

The midfielder had time for one last assist on the day, to cap off a fantastic season. He scored 15 and provided 11 overall, despite playing in a top-five league at 35 years old. You can see his final assist of the campaign in the video below from 0:10.

Based on reports from recent months, Cazorla doesn’t plan to hang up his boots just yet, so this new position at Al Sadd will be at least partly a playing role. It’s very possible he’ll also start to transition into coaching, though.

Former Barcelona midfielder Xavi is currently working as head coach at Al Sadd, after completing his own playing career there. Perhaps after Cazorla makes that step up himself, he can rejoin Arsenal alongside Mikel Arteta someday.
