Bernd Leno made it into the WhoScored Premier League Team of the Season for 2019/20, as the sole Arsenal participant in the side.

WhoScored put Bernd Leno in their Premier League Team of the Season for 2019/20, with an average rating of 6.88. The Arsenal goalkeeper was their highest-rated keeper to make 30+ appearances this season.

Funnily enough, the highest-rated goalkeeper overall was Emi Martinez, with 7.04. He just didn’t make enough appearances to qualify for the team.

In fairness, that’s probably also why Martinez’s rating was so high. It’s easier to get a high rating with a few good games in a small sample size. It’s more impressive to be ahead of all your peers from a sample as big as 30 games or more.

So congratulations to Leno on an excellent campaign, marred only by his injury with eight games to go. Thankfully, he’s back in training again ahead of the FA Cup final, and very likely to make it back in plenty of time for the new Premier League season.

The goalkeeper won Arsenal plenty of points with his performances this campaign, as the team really struggled for any kind of defensive solidity. Things would be a lot worse without him and Martinez at the back.
