The Mirror report that Arsenal join Manchester United, Everton, Paris Saint-Germain and Napoli in the race to sign Gabriel Magalhaes from Lille this summer.

Everton were the favourites before lockdown, but they failed to get the deal over the line. Arsenal are one of the clubs to make contact over the 22-year-old defender since then.

The article claims Arsenal are looking to “shake up their defence” and will try to offload some players to afford to bring some in.

They may need to put a rush on a potential move, though. Lille president Gerard Lopez told the media that they’ve agreed to let the player leave this summer. He added that Gabriel will choose his next club over the course of this week.

The fee is around €22m (£19.9m) with bonuses of another €3m or so. That’s certainly not out of the question, even on Arsenal’s budget.

Of course, it’s still going to come down to whether Mikel Arteta’s side can boost that budget with an FA Cup final win on Saturday. The money from the cup win and the resulting Europa League qualification will help.
