Goal report that Arsenal are closing in on a deal for George Lewis, confident of completing it soon after the FA Cup final. The player held a two-week trial in March, and is currently a free agent after a spell with Norwegian side Fram Larvik.

He spent time on trial with Ipswich Town and Bournemouth before Arsenal, who now want him on a permanent deal. It’s still not quite done yet, though, according to the report from Goal. Lewis is in London waiting to finalise the move after the cup final.

As we highlighted on Wednesday, the Arsenal u23s are seemingly leaving a shirt number open for Lewis. All reports suggest he’ll join up with Steve Bould’s side at first.

After that, it’s just a matter of how quickly he can settle in and make an impression. It looks like there will be plenty of opportunities to start on the wings, with Nathan Tormey’s recent departure and Bukayo Saka’s promotion.

Fram Larvik sporting director Jostein Jensen and the player’s agent both seemed very confident about the transfer in May. The pandemic and the resulting disruptions are slowing it down, but it seems likely to go through in the end.
